McCarthy's Corner - CeeBees split opening weekend
The HGOE CeeBee Stars were involved in a couple of lopsided matches to kick off their 2021-22 Avalon East Senior Hockey League season. On Friday night the Stars faced a strong St. John's Caps team and suffered a 9-2 defeat. The Caps had a balanced offensive attack as 9 different players potted a goal, including one by well travelled veteran Terry Ryan. Ryon Williams and Cody Batten replied for the CeeBees. The game was suspended early in the 3rd period due to poor ice conditions at the Jack Byrne Arena.

The CeeBee Stars roared back the following night during their home opener as they thumped the CBS Blues 9-4. CeeBees' captain Jordan Escott opened the scoring as he snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Blues' netminder Matthew Jenkins at the 8;50 mark of the first period. Escott, who led the league in scoring last season, added another goal and 2 assists later in the game.  Bay Roberts native Ryan Dawson also was an offensive force for the home side as he fired home 3 goals for his first senior hockey hat trick. The speedy centre also assisted on Brett Shute's first period goal to finish the night with 4 points. Andew Antle, Ryan Delaney, and David Hibbs also contributed single tallies for the Stars. Christian Dawe had a strong defensive game on the blue line for the CeeBees and chipped in with 2 assists to help out the offense.

This coming Saturday night at the DCHGCC in Harbour Grace the CeeBees face another formidable opponent as they host the Southern Shore Breakers. The Breakers have former St. John's Ice Cap Josh Lunden behind the bench this season and early projections peg them as serious Herder Trophy contenders.

The CeeBees will host The Southern Shore Brteakers this Saturday night at Home at 7:30pm.
