Thomey helps CeeBees even up in AESHL final
news • 2017-03-03 (Mar. 3, 2017) -- Captain Matthew Thomey netted back-to-back shorthanded tallies over a three-minute span in the second period to lead the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars to a 4-3 win over the Tapper's Northeast Eagles on Friday evening at the Jack Byrne Arena.
The CeeBees victory ties the best-of-seven Avalon East Senior Hockey League final at a game apiece with Game 3 set for Saturday night, 7:30, at the Danny Cleary Community Centre in Harbour Grace.
Kenny King's third-period goal was the winner, Daniel Sparkes opened the game's scoring and Sam Roberts had two helpers. A.J. Whiffen stopped 41 of 44 shots, including 20 of 21 in a busy second period.
Sean Wadden, with two, and Chris Ryan countered for the Eagles, whose Mark Yetman had 37 saves.
