Eagles double up CeeBees in championship series opener

(Mar. 1, 2017) -- Andrew White's third-period marker was the winner as the Tapper's Northeast Eagles took Game 1 of the Avalon East Senior Hockey League championship series 4-2 over the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars Wednesday night. At the Danny Cleary Community Centre, the Liam Myers, Andrew Smith and Steve Yetman also tallied for the winners who got a 26-save performance from Mark Yetman. Robert Slaney and Sam Roberts countered for the CeeBees. A.J. Whiffen faced stopped 19 of 23 in a losing effort. Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is Friday night, 8 o'clock, at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay. The winner advances to the Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series to take on the winner of the Central West Senior Hockey League's final between the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts and Clarenville Caribous.
