Eagles down Breakers in OT, advance to AESHL final

(Feb. 24, 2017) -- The Tapper's Northeast Eagles advanced to the Avalon East Senior Hockey League championship series after eliminating the Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers Friday night. At the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, Chris Mooney's goal five minutes into overtime — his second of the game — secured a 4-3 win over the Breakers in Game 7 of the teams' best-of-seven semifinal series. Andrew White had a goal and three assists while Chris Sparkes scored once and picked up two helpers for the Eagles who will meet the Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars in a best-of-seven league final which starts Wednesday night, 7:30 p.m., at the Danny Cleary Community Centre in Harbour Grace. Cory Blackmore scored twice for the Breakers, Jeremy Nicholas had one — all three coming on the power play — and Ray Dalton and Scott McCarthy had two helpers apiece. Mark Yetman stopped 34 of 37 shots for the win, with Ben Goss facing 50 in net for the Breakers.
