CeeBees headed to AESHL championship series

(Feb. 18, 2017) -- The Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars are off to the Avalon Senior Hockey League championship series after defeating the St. John's Green Sleeves Caps 5-4 in overtime of Game 5 on Saturday night. At the Danny Cleary Community Centre in Harbour Grace, Brett Shute scored the winner in the extra frame — his second of the game — to close out of the best-of-seven series. Daniel Sparkes had two, Andrew Fenwick picked up one, and Robert Slaney and Matthew Thomey had two assists each. A.J. Whiffen faced 31 shots in net for the CeeBees who were down 4-3 with under four minutes to play. For the Caps, Ryan Walsh and Robert Barrett had a goal and a helper, Mike Druken and Jeremy Barron had singles and Terry Ryan assisted on three goals. Kyle Downer saw 31 shots in net. The CeeBees will await the winner of the Tapper's Northeast Eagles and Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers' series which continues Sunday night in Mobile. Game time at the Southern Shore Arena is 7 p.m. The Eagles lead the series 3-2.
