(Nov. 29, 2016) -- The Hickman Chrysler Bell Island Blues made Ian Skinner the first overall pick in the Avalon East Senior Hockey League's second entry draft on Tuesday evening. Last season, the 21-year-old left-winger from Corner Brook played for the Central West Senior Hockey League's Corner Brook Royals, dressing for nine games. He was not acquired by any of the CWSHL teams in a dispersal draft of Corner Brook players after the team announced it would be taking a one-year leave of absence from provincial senior hockey play. The St. John's Green Sleeves Caps used the second overall pick to acquire veteran senior hockey player and former Montreal Canadiens first-round draft pick Terry Ryan. The 39-year-old native of Mount Pearl suited up for the CWSHL's Gander Flyers last season, his second with the club, registering 10 points in 18 games. The Caps, by virtue of a pre-season trade with the Tapper's Northeast Eagles for the rights to defenceman Doug O'Brien, also had the third pick and used it to take blueliner Murray Bavis. The 28-year-old from St. John's spent last season with the Clarenville Caribous of the CWSHL, seeing action in just five games. The Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers and Harbour Grace Ocean Enterprises CeeBee Stars passed on the fourth and fifth picks of the first round. Bell Island, St. John's, and Northeast passed on the first three of the second round, thereby ending the draft. Five players remained undrafted and are now eligible as free agents.
